Severance
After spending six years in the popular Detroit local band Avenue, Todd Schoeneman the singer/songwriter has searched within himself and found a style all his own. With the formation of "Severance" the band hopes to cut the ties with that everyday local band label.

"As an original band we thrive on our ability to be different and we're eager to bring that fresh sound from the local level to national stage" said Todd.

Rhythm guitars that drive, captivating leads, rich vocals and hooked melodies bring emphasis to the soulful lyrics that lie underneath.
The Instrumentation includes- Todd Schoeneman on Guitar/Vocals, Mark Pilotto on Lead/Back up vocals, Pat Wears on Bass Guitar and Justin Sowers on Drums.

The Newcomers

What started out as three guys trying to entertain at a high school graduation party has turned in to a legitimate, widely eclectic rock and roll cover band project.

The Newcomers are a Black Swamp area 20-something band specializing in rock and roll from the 60s through today. Founding members Zach Barger (lead vocals, bass, and keyboards), Jeff Zellner (rhythm guitar, harmonica, and backup vocals) and Evan Iles (drums, auxiliary percussion) started up The Newcomers after Zach was asked to get a band together to play for a family friend's graduation party and ,along with lead guitarist Paul Romanoski, have enjoyed local success and a growing following ever since.

'episodic'

The band 'episodic' (small e) describes its sound as, 'A New Voice In Progressive Hard Rock'.   Their music combines Guitar-driven Hard Rock with progressive elements such as odd timing meters, abrupt tempo and scene changes, and a tight, aggressive rhythm section. The passionate and compelling vocal delivery of the intriguing lyrics saturates the relevancy of each of their songs!

episodic calls Flint, Michigan their home...yeah, that Flint, Michigan! Just close enough to their big brother, Detroit, to pick up some of his less-than-desirable traits, shall we say...and some of the long-standing traditions of musical exceptionalism that has driven much of modern music for nearly a century! Founded by Guitarist/Songwriter Richard Kotsko, the band was completed by Jeremy Aiello on bass, Mark Routt on Drums, and Chris Lopez on Vocals.

Saving Jane

For anyone who has grown annoyed by the music industry’s habit of selling songs with sex rather than substance, Marti Dodson has an album for you. It’s more like a movement. With One Girl Revolution, Saving Jane’s lead singer is trying to bring us back to a time when songs were based around heartfelt stories that didn’t have be delivered with a wink and a wiggle.

As her bandmates exorcise their inner rock god on the hard-charging, hooky One Girl Revolution—turning the band’s third disc into perhaps their most electrified outing—Dodson urges her fans to be themselves and to reject how females are treated in the music industry and in the media.

Featured Artist of the Month: Occasional Monster

I think humans have a built-in need to categorize things.  We tend to try and take each new experience and file it neatly away under one of several general headings we maintain in our mental archives.  Good luck trying to do that with this month's BSconnection.com featured artist.  Occasional Monster is a band from central Ohio composed of Bobby Dunkle – Guitar, Dan Sherwood – Guitar and Vocals, Jerod Elder – Bass and Vocals, Michael Knapp - Drums and Cymbals, and Ross Hockman - Trombone, Keyboard and Airsynth.

If OM’s music was a wine, I would describe it as, “Adventurous without being self-indulgent.”   Here is how they describe themselves:

“we are commonly described as Alternative, but such a one word description defies the complexity and schizophrenic range that is our hallmark. We range from acoustic folk to heavy music that rides the fence between hard rock and metal. During that journey between extremes, we traverse through other territories including old-school country, jazz, blues, funk, and noise. Sure, we are not the first band to pull off this smashup of genres, but we are among a select few that do it while maintaining equal importance for the art of song craft. Not all songs are a journey, but you can be assured that you cannot faithfully predict where each new song may go by it’s first thirty seconds, nor it’s first four minutes.”

BSconnection.com's Featured Artist of the Month is Curtis Kokenos - SINcerely red

Curtis, also known as ‘SINcerely red’, is a solo acoustic artist from Dearborn, Michigan.  Curtis sings, plays guitar, drums, piano and writes his own songs.

Curtis came by his musical talent naturally - his parents tour as 'Not Our Own', a Christian music duo.

The past few months SINcerely red has been taking the next steps to becoming a more polished artist. Hitting the pavement hard, he has been spending countless hours in the studio, performing live, and promoting his upcoming album entitled “Nothing Left”. The album is scheduled for release in early 2009.
