Jack & Jin's Thai Restaurant - Findlay

Jack & Jin's is one of those pleasant little surprises you stumble across every now and then (in my case, literally).  I had jogged past it on my Sunday run several times this winter, noticing the storefront in the small shopping plaza just north of the University of Findlay Bookstore. Each time I ran past I made a mental note to give it a try sometime, and each time I promptly forgot about it as soon as it was out of sight.  Until last Saturday when I dropped in for carry out.  I am so glad I finally remembered it!

The first thing that struck me as I entered through the unimposing storefront was how immaculate the dining area looked.  The furniture is not new and in some cases showing its age, but everything looked spotless.  I was greeted at the door by a polite hostess who gave me a menu after determining I was a carry-out customer (not dining in).  The menu was the second surprise - it is huge for a restaurant that size.

The menu includes ten appetizers, five salads, seven soups, ten different Thai noodle and Thai curry entrees, a dozen different stir fried and fried rice entrees, as well as desserts, beverages and side dishes!  Each entree is available in one of five 'spice levels' - no spice, mild, medium, hot and extra hot.  I could do the  math and figure out exactly how many different variations are possible, but you get the picture...a lot!

I ordered the 'Crispy Egg Roll' as an appetizer and it was very good, with a taste very much like the famous Bee Tran egg rolls ( a Findlay legend).

I ordered Yellow Curry for myself and Broccoli Stir Fried for my wife.  Both were excellent (she was kind enough to let me sample hers).  The Yellow Curry (Gang Ga-Ree) is yellow curry paste in coconut milk with potatoes, bell peppers and white onions.  My wife's dish consisted of stir fried broccoli with brown sauce, which I ordered in medium spice level.  The ingredients were fresh and the portions were generous and very satisfying.  Both entrees were served with white rice.

Next time I get the craving for Thai cuisine, I will definitely remember Jack & Jin's!

I would love to try every 'small dish' on P.F. Chang's appetizer menu, but I know I won't.  Not that I don't plan to go there in future, its just that I know I will probably never get past the first item -   CHANG'S ...
