We love to fondue at home and during Christmas we joined the Fondue Club at Melting Pot. Last night drove to Toledo and gave it a try. First - it is very easy to get to from Findlay. Just take I-75 to the US 23 split. Follow US 23 and get off at Monroe St. exit. Turn right on Monroe and the Melting Pot is immediately on your right. The ambiance is great. Soft lights and light jazz compliment your dining experience. We decided to try their 4 course "Big Night Out Alpine special" with the lobster fusion - consisting of a cheese fondue, salad, variety of meats, mushrooms/potatoes/broccoli, all topped off with a chocolate fondue. The cheese fondue was their alpine special but you could select from any of their offerings. It is served with green apples, bread and veggies for dipping. We selected the Alpine cheese fondue which consisted of white wine, garlic, nutmeg/whole grain mustard, and Gruyere, Raclette and Fontina cheeses. The Alpine Ridge salad consisted of greens, hard boiled eggs, swiss cheese and a shallot vinaigrette. The entree platter included Saurbraten strip steak, filet mignon, chicken, shrimp, smoked bratwurst, lobster tail and vegetable dumplings. (these are a new addition... very similar to pot stickers.) We chose the coq au vin cooking broth which was a blending of beef broth, garlic, mushrooms, and burgandy. We finished off the evening with the "Flaming Turtle" chocolate fondue with caramel and pecans with a 151 rum. We had a great experience at Melting Pot. Make sure you aren't in a rush as our total meal took over 2 hours... but it was nice to be able to relax and enjoy a great experience. It is also fairly expensive, but in my estimation worth it - particularly for a special occassion. |
