Fins Restaurant

Fins Restaurant is Findlay's newest dining establishment. They specialize in fresh seafood. I had the grouper with a Thai Ginger sauce. They had a variety of sides - but we all had something a little unique - lobster macaroni. It was excellent. The entree was excellent. But, the best part of the meal was the seafood bisque. It was as good as any I've had anywhere in the country. The prices were reasonable given the quality of food. Drinks were very reasonably priced. However, prices may make it more of a special occassion restaurant than a weekly visit. They are owned by the same group that owns the Pioneer Mill in Tiffin. Give it a try - it's on Broad Avenue in Findlay just north of Ralphies and Kennedy Printing. |

Went to this restaurant at 6:20pm, had to wait 40 minutes to be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. Menu selection not very good, they need some basics. I played it safe (so I thought) and ordered a NY Strip and it was full of fat and grissle. Could not have a conversation because people kept coming up and asking how the food was. Don't worry about making reservations, it looked like they had to wait too. We overheard an employee tell another not to have more than 60 people in diningroom at one time. This place is trying to be upscale, however, there were televisions facing diningroom making it feel like a sports bar. I doubt if this restaurant will last in Findlay, I know we won't be back. |

The posted opinions were on Valentines- weekend-when restaurants typically are too crowded and not the best service! Give Fins a chance again. I agree that a flat screen TV in a nice restaurant is a juxtaposition- I hate TVS Findlay restaurants! I will go to a sports bar if I ever wanted to see one. Put a screen over your bar area Fins, no one wants to see your TV!! Fins would look nicer if they divided the huge Bob Evans expanses with private cozy nooks, to make intimate areas. Maybe some lattice work divisions???? And yes, the staff does not have to ask us a million tiems "How is the food", "Do you like this or that?... The menu tried by our table of 5, was a delightful mix of assorted fresh fish, Fed-exed daily for freshness- with just as many wonderful sauces and relishes to go with your choices. My salmon, with a Jamaican-type mango sauce was the best salmon I have ever had- they even asked "How would you like that prepared?" like it was a steak or something... One more thing, get rid of the tacky flashing sign out front... just because the University squeezed that ugly sign in, doesn't mean we want those signs in Findlay! The appetizers were lacking and over-priced except for the garlic oysters that I special requested (mmm, mmm, almost as good as in N'awlins). The wine menu was a nice selection. |

In regard to the comment about the fish not being fresh... in fact, it is. We were given a presentation by the chef and he explained their entire process of receiving whole fish and trimming in house. He then brought a piece of salmon to our table and explained why they choose salmon from off the coast of Scotland, etc. For me, it's about the food, and the food I've had in my two visits has been excellent. |

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Fins. We had reservations (recommended for weekends) and were seated promptly. I read the above complaint about a wait with empty tables. As someone who has worked in food service, I understand why they stagger seating on busy nights. If, when the dinner rush comes, many patrons are seated at once, that results in chaos in the kitchen and servers who can’t give their best attention to diners. The servers at Fins are attractive and competent. Entrees run in the $12-25 range. While the prices might be a few dollars above the chain restaurants, it was worth the money. My husband had a feature, filet Oscar, which was terrific and piled with crab. I had a wonderful piece of salmon with the Thai ginger sauce. The chef invited us back into the spotless kitchen and actually showed us how they break down a whole fresh fish into fillets. The chef and the other 2 owners are all locals and are frequently at the restaurant to greet diners and make sure that things are going well. I appreciate that, as well as the fact that they invested their own money in a local business in this poor economy. Also they refurbished an eyesore that sat abandoned in our town for two years. Everyone complains about places closing or having nothing but chains to choose from, so I am glad to have a unique, locally-owned and -operated restaurant offering fresh seafood. I think it is interesting that one earlier reviewer called it tiny and another described it as a huge expanse. That is not what I noticed. The lounge area has a glowing blue mosaic tile bar and the huge saltwater aquarium in the dining room is a beautiful touch. The tables are shadowboxes filled with sand and real shells. A couple of reviewers mention the TVs. One of the owners said that they have plans to install a decorative glass panel to separate the lounge from the dining area. Even if they don’t, I would hardly call this place a sports bar. As far as the sign goes, I find it a lot less tacky than those wind-blown plastic triangle things that are out in front of many establishments. We will most certainly return to Fins. |

We ate at Fins on February 24. The quantity and quality of the seafood was great. Our waitress was friendly and helpful but not overbearing. We found the restaurant decor to be in good taste. I especially enjoyed the sand and shell-filled glass table tops. Someone commented that their steaks weren't very good---well, this is a seafood place. Enjoy it for what it is, and go to a steakhouse for steak if you don't like theirs! We plan to return for another excellent seafood dinner. |

I ate at fin's a week ago yesterday. I want to go back to try the vWednesday fish n chips! I understand that this special is $12. Our meal for 2 was wonderful. Phil had salmon on a cedar plank with a huge, beautiful, perfectly steamed full stalk of fresh brocolli. If you add salad to an entree, it is $3, and his was well worth the money. I was impressed with the hugest scallops I have ever seen, on a bed of flavorful greens, combined with an excellent, large crab cake, and Pommes frites, gourmet french fries with a delicious sauce. I added the seafood bisque for $2, and it was wonderful. I also had an excellent big glass of white wine, one of the least expensive offerings. Our total before tip was under $50, and it was a lovely place and a fun experience. I think some people try a little too hard to find fault, sometimes. |

My husband, daughter and I went to Fins two weeks ago and cannot wait to go back. We mad reservation and only waited about five minutes while they got our table ready. The menu was great. It's not cluttered which makes it easier to select an entree not to mention that they have specials that are not on the menu. The food was excellent and so was the service. The dining area was a little small but not crowded and very nice. Our waitress was not pushy or overbearing. You have to realize that if your server is like that it's generally the person and not the restaurant. Let them know so they can fix it. Great job to the owner! Loved the fact that you were there and talking to customers that is something I hope to keep seeing when we come in. Thanks for a great night and wonderful fresh fish! |

Got back to Fins again last Friday. We had crab cakes and lobster ravioli this time. Both were out of this world! They now have an interesting specialty martini menu along with a really nice wine list. If you like Bloody Marys, be sure to try one at Fins. They use smoked poblano peppers and some secret ingredient for a very unique flavor, Also, the owner's wife told me that starting in April, Fins would be having live jazz every Sunday from 5-8. Can't wait! |

Ate at the bar at Fins last night. Was overwhelmed with the quality and taste of the excellent soup, scallops, and tuna. YUM! Prices were not bad at all for this fine food. Bartender was very freindly and helped with menu selection. TV's could go - but didnt really bother us. A GREAT SEAFOOD PLACE much needed in Findlay! |

We went for our anniversary on Jan 27th. Fish was good, I ordered a baked potato with my meal...I guess I got only half a potato & my husband got the other half sliced with a strange tomato topping. Rather strange why you can't get a whole baked potato..??? Don't think we'll go back! Rather disappointed. (our 48th anniversary) Jan. 27th 10010 |

While this subject can be very touchy for most people, my opinion is that there has to be a middle or common ground that we all can find. I do appreciate that youve added relevant and intelligent commentary here though. Thank you! |
