Jack & Jin's Thai Restaurant - Findlay

Jack & Jin's is one of those pleasant little surprises you stumble across every now and then (in my case, literally). I had jogged past it on my Sunday run several times this winter, noticing the storefront in the small shopping plaza just north of the University of Findlay Bookstore. Each time I ran past I made a mental note to give it a try sometime, and each time I promptly forgot about it as soon as it was out of sight. Until last Saturday when I dropped in for carry out. I am so glad I finally remembered it!

I would love to try every 'small dish' on P.F. Chang's appetizer menu, but I know I won't. Not that I don't plan to go there in future, its just that I know I will probably never get past the first item - Described on the menu as :

The Elephant Bar and Restaurant

I admit I had misgivings about trying the Elephant Bar and Restaurant, 5001 Monroe St., in Toledo. Scoping out the restaurant’s website beforehand, it seemed to emphasize ‘family friendly’, with a special kids menu and certificate program. I have children myself, so don’t get me wrong – I love kids. Unless they are stranger’s kids who scream, yell, beg, cry or whine when I am trying to enjoy a meal. Then….not so much! Two other red flags: It is part of a chain and it is located in a busy mall parking lot.

Oler's Bar and Grill

In the course of a person’s day to day existence, which is more rewarding: 1. Knowing of a great restaurant with excellent food, formal atmosphere, professionally courteous wait staff, and price levels that make visits a ’special occasions only’ event, or … 2. Knowing of a modest restaurant with consistently decent food, laid back atmosphere, waitresses who treat you like family, and reasonable prices? Oler’s Bar and Grill, 708 Lima Avenue, Findlay (across the street from Cooper Tire), definitely falls into the second category.

Trotters Tavern (Bowling Green)

To me, nothing compliments a steak like a tall, dark glass of Guinness draft. At Trotters, pouring a glass of Guinness becomes a work of art - literally! Before you take a sip, notice that the bar maid has delicately sculpted a perfect Shamrock in the foamy head as she poured it.

I've been going to the Easy Street Cafe, 104 S. Main St., Bowling Green, for several years now and here's why: 1. Good food, wide variety of choices.
2. Huge portions (I mean really huge!)
3. Reasonable prices
4. Great atmosphere
5. Good service
6. Grumpy Dave

El Camino Real

I love Mexican food, but have become somewhat jaded with all the area restaurants that have sprung up that specialize in south of the border cuisine. They seem to all have identical menus and the food tastes the same from restaurant to restaurant. El Camino Real is different in sooo many ways!
